Congratulations to everyone who competed in the club championship / grand prix race at Wilmington yesterday.  Full results are here, wilmington 10k 2010 results. It seems that some people had the wrong numbers given out to them, if there’s a problem please let Jim know….

This years championship will be judged on age grading, so you’ll have to be patient and wait for Jim to get out his calculator and work out who won the mens and ladies competitions…. full report to follow but in the meantime here’s some photo’s from Simon.

Grand Prix Update October

Post by Jim Addison

After the champions league heroics of last weekend (well done everyone, lots of great results in all the races including the ultra marathon result) attention now switches back to the domestic league and the english winter mud.

Updated grand prix tables attached showing latest standings in the main grand prix (points and age grading) and the cross country grand prix (points only).  These updates take account of the Weald and Croydon 10ks in the main grand prix and the Eridge and Kent league 1# events in the cross-country grand prix.  Next events are the main grand prix event (and club champs event) at the Wilmington 10k on 31 Oct, also the cross country event tomorrow with the Kent league 2#.

Remember that only 8 races count by season end for the main grand prix points and age grading, and 7 count in the cross-country grand prix.  Where people have run more races i’ve shown their total scores/% in italics (currently only applies to Paul Booth and Ameet).

Any errors please let me know. I hope i’ve taken account of all the changes people told me about since the last update.

From Sparrows Den to Croydon via Petts Wood

Lots of Beckenham action took place this weekend with Cross Country, Beckenham Grand Prix and title defences all in the space of a hectic 2 days….

So starting with Saturday, the first Kent League Cross Country race got under way with the ladies race, solid performances from Mel (12th), Anika (31st), Gail (43rd) and Nicky gave Beckenham enough points to leave the women in 8th place. Women results

Ben took some photo’s which he might add here at some point. ***Update, apparently Ben’s photography is not as good as his running skills so they came out blurred****

The men’s race followed despite having a weakened team and a few absences because of Sundays grand prix race there was sill a good turn out. After a frenetic first lap Chris Minns had to pull out after tweaking his hamstring leaving Nolan (43rd), Will (66th), Stuart (72) & Ben (80th) as the Beckenham scorer’s, which left us 12th overall. There’s plenty of scope to build on that one at the next race on the 23rd of October. Mens results & Overall team results

Sunday 10/10/10 at 10:10am saw the Croydon 10k and Beckenham’s next Grand Prix fixture, again there were a few absentees (some were saving themselves for a marathon, on holiday, MIA, or were at the 9th best race in the country as voted by runners world!). Craig finished a creditable 10th place in 37:40 (chip?) closely followed by Richard Selway in 38:30 and 13th place. Helen was the first of the ladies, with Gail next in (and first v50?). Croydon Results

And finally, well done to Mel who chose not race to race at Croydon so she could defend her Petts Wood 10k crown. And what a wise move, she only went and won it again! Congratulations, enjoy spending those vouchers….

While it was Williamson vs Selway at Croydon, it was Scott vs Lydon at Petts Wood. Despite Scott running at Sparrows Den the day before while Lydon stood on the sidelines resting up, Stuart managed to carve out a victory over his vet rival by 8 seconds! PW 10K Race Results 2010

Coming soon…. Beckenham does Reims.

Eridge 10 Trail Race

Flippen eck that was hard, but well worth it. If you haven’t done it before then you should, it’s a great race over the hills, mud and bogs of the Eridge Estate…I think we got off lightly this year as it’s been relatively dry so it wasn’t as muddy as it could have been. Saying that I still managed to lose my shoe in ‘Cheeky’s Bog’…. and thanks to Will for the great support… (he only turned up after we’d finished to grab some free cake!)

Weald 10k results

are here

A warm sunny day greeted the runners in the village of the Weald.  Times where down as the course had a big hill at the end.

Well done Mel, our only prize winner with top vet.  We also hope Ken has recovered from his collision with a cyclist on the course.  Eridge next week – who will get injured there?

Grand Prix Cliffe Woods 10k: Beckenham Team Hat Trick

Now that Wills wetted your appetite, now for the results in all their racemaster 98 glory

Numbers were down for this one thanks to holidays, mates weddings (I’m not boycotting the Grand Prix Honest!) and maybe the very hot weather…. But for those that went and for the for the third GP race in a row the mens and ladies teams took the team prizes, with a number of highly respectable performances. Welcomes and well dones to David Scrimshaw (41:25) and Amy Bhandari (58:10) who made their Beckenham racing debuts.

There’s abit of a summer break with the next road race on the 5th September at the Weald 10k (Sevenoaks) followed a week later by the Eridge 10 (voted Runners World no1 race for 2009!) and is part of the Cross Country Prix.

Grand Prix Latest June 2010

Jim writes…..

Here’s the Grand Prix 2010 tables End June 2010 updated following the Eltham and Dulwich events (Eltham also counting to the cross country grand prix).  Next event is Cliffe Woods on Sunday.  More people turned out for the June events so hopefully that will continue.

Headlines in terms of the latest standings following the June events are:

Main grand prix

* no changes to the leaders with Jim, Richard S and Gail leading the 3 divisions, but…

* first division – Simon stormed up to second giving Richard S some competition

* second division – Ken moved smartly up to second and Ian just moved ahead of Ameet

Age grading

* better % all round with now 14 rather than 11 club members in the average 70-80% range

* Craig with a rare 80+% for the club puts him above Richard S into third

* Helen first lady now ahead of Marc into 6th (and Stuart a new entry between the two of them)

Cross country grand prix

* Mel consolidating her lead in the ladies with Gail and Helen fighting it out for second

* Jim leading the men’s with Ben just behind and Simon in a safe third

I’ve not included the age % for the cross-country as the races vary so much in terms of terrain that a % is not really comparable. It works fine though for the main grand prix.  And it means only 3 leagues to think about. If you want me to reinstate it though please say

Grand Prix Dulwich 5k: Beckenham Win Again!!

Beckenham showed great strength in depth at the Dulwich 5k to claim both mens and ladies team prizes, and also 3rd lady & 1st lady v40.

A long list of injuries, football drunks (ahem) and Dog Sitters made it look like there were more spectators than those taking part, but Beckenham still had enough to take a fair share of the prizes.  And here they all are posing with their ….lovely envelopes!

There are some more Photo’s here, only taken with a phone so not up to Tom and Steve standard!

Next Grand Prix Cliffe Woods so get in your entry

Anika 3rd Lady

Kate 1st V40

Jim, Craig & Ben 1st Mens Team

Anika, Kate & Gail 1st Ladies Team
