BECKENHAM RUNNING CLUB

Grand Prix Races 2007

Grand Prix Races are our official club events for which taking parts gets you points. Then at the Christmas party the person with the most points wins the grand prix for that year. And buys us all a drink. There's a more scientific explanation here.

See below for Handicap times....

FINAL RESULTS FOR 2007 ARE HERE

Grand Prix 2006 and earlier -  HERE

Craig Writes....

For those new to the Grand Prix, these are our official club races. Points are awarded for each race based on the individual's performance against his/her handicap time relative to everyone else's performance against their own handicap times. The more people that take part the more points you can get.

To allow for people being injured, away on holiday, or just too tired or drunk the night before, only your best 8 results count at the end of the year when prizes are awarded, so you can afford to miss up to 4 races a year and still be in with a good chance of winning. However, your appearance points of 2 points per race will count for every race you attend.

Jokers - a joker can be played once in the first half of the year (races 1-6) and once in the second half (races 7-12). If you play your joker you double your points.

Apologies for the tough start to the season, however the hard training for Benfleet last season seemed to enhance our performances throughout the year.

I haven't included Sidcup 10 in the Grand Prix due to a significant number of people being away that weekend (including me), however I would recommend you it for an extremely fast 10 mile race. Forms are in reception at the club.

Benfleet apart, we have 5 fairly local races in the first half of the season so I would encourage you all to support the Grand Prix and show a large presence of claret (or green and black) at these races.

Crowborough 10k 2nd December 2007

Crowborough was pretty memorable, if for the weather if nothing else. An interesting change to run (twice) across a flooded lane and up over the back straight with the wind and rain streaming across. A mini grizzly. Nearly. That could be why we don't seem to have any pictures....

Petts Wood 10k 14th October 2007

Well done Petts Wood on their first race.  Nice route past sheep and other semi-rural delights. Probably shouldn't wear my Walsh's next time. If Ruth had timed it better, we could have had one at the front and one at the back. I think we got first man and first male team.

Faversham 10k 16th Sept 2007

A pleasant, well organised run, Loyal Webmaster got his highest ever placing ratio ( if you see what I mean ) thanks to Marc Claytons second hand racing shoes. Some of that Gazelle-like power coming with them maybe? But then he did after all come second, and I came 29th, so maybe not.

Cliffe Woods 10k 15th July 2007

I liked this race - the start was well organised, it was well marshalled and its a pleasant route along quiet lanes. And we got 3rd Mens.

Craig writes....

Another excellent performance from Beckenham at the Cliffe Woods 10k.

The race was a gently undulating race in humid conditions around traffic-free country roads of Cliffe in Rochester, Kent. We came away with the men's team prize (Marc, Andy C and Stuart) as well as another 3rd place for Marc. The mens team has now gained 3 first places and 2 second places in the last 5 team races at Ted Pepper, Darent Valley, Eltham, Orpington and Cliffe Woods - an excellent result, we will soon need to think about building a trophy cabinet!

Cliffe Woods resulted in 5 Beckenham runners in the top 20 as well as at least one PB (Gillian). Well done everyone that ran. Hopefully, next year it won't clash with the Swanley tri, so that we can return there for a 2008 Grand Prix Event.

As often seems to happen, the rain stopped at the last minute, and the run was in non-rain conditions. I hesitate to say "dry".

Paddock Wood Half 1st April 2007

Craig Writes....

Well done to the 12 BRC members that turned up and ran the Paddock Wood 1/2M through the hop fields in lovely sunshine and a refreshing blustery wind.

We had 5 runners finishing in under 90 minutes including one under 80 minutes (Marc), (
and including one who tried to finish under 90 minutes, but didn't - Ed) a feat that hasn't been achieved in the last 3 or 4 years.

There were 1395 finishers, of which....
