BECKENHAM RUNNING CLUB

Reims 2005

October 22/23/24 2005

Think of Reims and think of....

The Cathedral ? Possibly....

Champagne? Possibly... the clue here is the water....

Yup, Beckenham Running Club do France.... Zut Alors.

21 make it to Reims for the 10k, the half ( or 'semi' as its called over there, bah!) and the full ( or 'turgid', I guess) marathon.

.

We meet at Waterloo at some ungodly hour. All BRC adventures start this way for some reason.  Martin wonders if he has forgotten anything, and where is everyone?

We are all trying to wake up Martin. Each in our own way...

Stuart brushes up his french, Kate nurses her coffee. Nicky is eating fruit. Sums us all up really.

Yup. We're all still here...

John, le dentiste and Ken l'ultrarunner

We somehow managed to navigate the entire party on foot from Paris Nord to Paris Est, a distance of several hundred yards, without losing anyone. And a yard may be shorter than a meter, but a meter is a meaningless measure of the volume represented by 100 cc's of distilled water, which is plain silly, whereas the yard is a scientifically derived length based on the length of King Henry I's arm. You have to wonder if Henry had stretched himself just a little bit further Roger Bannister would never have managed the 4 minute mile. But we digress.

Ah, the big race. Everyone did pretty well and sorry, no pics of the 10k and semi. But we started to party on behalf of the full marathon runners who were still out there. We basically did an 'agincourt' on the champagne stall and invited ourselves in and took over.

You had to see this chap in the toupe. This band were loud. They were rockin'. Most of all though, they were loud. Meanwhile Gran-pere here took it all in his stride and sat on the stage, looking vaguely bewildered. Maybe he'd never heard 'Mustang Sally' before. I've never heard it quite like that certainly.

Oh yes, there was a race still going on. Nicky Storms home, shortly followed by John.

....looking as fresh at the finish as the rose that the organisers presented to all the women marathon finishers. Like they'd done something special.

All in Safely....

and we could "relax"...

In fact some of us got very relaxed.

It had been a long day.

And it didn't stop there... you can see the video...

And back home. A short stop in Paris, into the Latin Quarter. Or Latin Quarter as they call it.

And the punchline for this picture is currently with our legal department.

Yes, there is a video of that dancing.....
