The Piece of Cake Is Back

The inaugral 2010 Piece of Cake time trial took place tonight, following the re-surfacing of the far leg of the track. And very smooth it was too. We appear, congratulations Simon, to have a new COURSE RECORD. Are the previous record holders going to take this lying down?

         Left Leg Right Leg 2
Simon    4-03 4-03 Nice consistancy and a New Course Record
Ben 6-16* 4-42* "I got lost" says Britain's 35th fastest Brompton Nocturne Athlete
Carolyn 5-36 5-42 A cautious start from a POC first-time. Plenty of season left.
Jen 5-09 5-14 Failing on the opening event of the season to threaten her own class record
Andy S 4-52 4-59 Not disqualified this event for any imaginary faults.
Steve F 4-31 4-38 Steve beats his own best time for last year. One to watch
Will     4-24      4-31* A dissapointing lack of "novelty bike" input from BRC's bike magpie
*Note: These two did the course without helmets which is not big or clever and will definatelty get their 20 second penatly next time.

Piece of cake # 3 – This time it’s serious

Congratulations all who took part in the 3rd “piece of cake” 1.5 mile time trial.
Warm up run at the Piece of Cake#3
Unfortunately, a combination of exhaustion, south-west winds, deterioration in road surface, wrong use of bike, wrong use of gears, etc etc, mean that we failed to break the world record this time. The fact that Nolan wasn’t here may have been a factor.
Anyway, the results are below.  Next time trial at a date to be announced.

    Name Left Leg Right Leg
    Will 4.35 4.09
    Ben 4.14 4.15
    Simon 4.24 4.24
    Andy 4.34 4.37
    Mel 4.41 4.45
    (note:uncomfortable run-in with learner driver)
    Smalls 4.45 4.36
(note:Smalls failed to be disqualified this event. However we continue to scour the rulebook for infractions)
    Jen 4.56 5.01
(a 2nd time that’s Jen has qualified for the Levi’s award)
    Nicky 5.04 5.00
    Colin 5.05 5.06
    Gail 5.42 5.32
(note: not only was Gail the best improver, but by common consent it was believed she had the heaviest bicycle)

“Piece of Cake” – Trial # 2 World Record Smashed

16th July 1009 – The Cream of South London Sprint Cyclists gather for the Legendary Beckenham Running Club “Piece of Cake” 1.5 Mile Sprint Classic.

In perfect conditions Nolan recovered from persistant cycle clip fumbling (and no matter how many times you explain it Nolan, those clips don’t look particularly tricky to me) to shave 11 seconds off the previous world record, held by Disloyal Webmaster since, umm, 2009. In addition the “middle field” was nail-bitingly close.

Full Rules and Details here http://www.beckenhamrunning.co.uk/tag/piece-of-cake. Watch this space for next months event.

1.5 Mile Time Trial Cycle Sprint

Tomorrow we are testing out our first time trial ride – this is just a bit of fun, which involves cycling as fast as conditions safely permit around a 1.5 mile course. No right turns, no Give-Ways, and one stop sign, at the end.

And this is the route…. if you click in the little picture, you get a big one. Amazing.
