Nothing to do with my 50th run (honest) ….

parkrun in Bromley has been going for nearly 2 years now, and has provided a great way to get an early weekend run in and be sociable too. It’s also been popular with us Beckenham runners. 45 of us have run at least once and here’s the list of who has run 10 runs or more… between all us we’ve run 591 times at an average of 13 runs each. That’s alot of missed lie ins!

Richard Selway reaches 50!

No this is not about Richard reaching the big age related 50, but it is about becoming the 1st Beckenham runner to complete 50 parkruns! Richard reached the 50 landmark at Bromleys 89th event. He ran 18:19, just 3 seconds outside his Norman Park PB in 6th place out of the 222 that took part. Richard took part in the very first Bromley parkrun back in August 2009 and been an ever present since. Richard is now in the “50 club” and will soon receive the red 50 club t shirt… congratulations Richard.

Beckenham parkrun Treble

A slow weekend of not alot going on racing wise, meant that it was back to marathon esq long runs or hiding under the duvet instead of facing the bleakest of grey days on Sunday.

So parkrun provides the inspiration for this weeks racing news…..

Jim made it win no.20 at Bromley parkrun in a close finish with unattached harrier Stephen Thackeray, and last weeks winner Richard Selway in 3rd. That puts Jim in about 22nd place on the most wins list on the main parkrun website…. 22 wins out of 29, not a bad return.

Mel B made it a Beckenham double by being 1st lady in 20:48 and adding to her impressive wins total also.

There were a number of other Beckenham runners out but a run to note was by Deborah Ford who despite the soggy conditions got a parkrun PB.

I’ve given up hope of winning at Bromley when Jim’s about as he selfishly hogs all the glory ;) so I went to Crystal Palace parkrun instead.  The rain obviously kept all the sensitive greyhounds away as I was able to win.  Thats 2 wins in 2, I’m coming to get you Addison, yeah!

Snow cancels this weeks races…

Thanks to the snow the Kent League and the Pirie 10 got called off this week to much frustration. So not to much to report about this week……

However, well done to the Bromley parkrun team for embracing the snow, and putting on the usual weekly race/TT. Times were down, as were the numbers but it was good fun.  Jim won in the slowest ever time, with myself slowly on his heels. Kate ran a blinder (quite literally if you get to close to her top) in a Personal Worst as she came in 1st lady. Click on the photo’s to see some other Beckenham faces….

The pink blur.. Kate 1st Lady

Nolan ahead of Jim!... Not for long tho....

Andy gives his car a Mohican

Stuart says he ran but I didn't see him in any photo's!

Grand Prix: parkrun 20/11/2010

This Saturday 20th November is the final Beckenham Road Grand Prix  race of the year.

It’s at Bromley parkrun, a free 5k run held weekly in Norman Park at 9am. Many of us have taken part regularly at parkruns so know the drill. For those that haven’t……

Firstly parkruns are entirely run by volunteers who give up there time every Saturday morning to put on the races. Having 30 odd Beckenham folk turn up is maybe stretching their goodwill a wee bit so if anyone can volunteer to help marshal then please contact BromleyHelpers@parkrun.com

On your marks......

New parkrunners have to REGISTER HERE in advance of the race (by Friday 6pm for this Saturday) and print off your personalised barcode, you can keep and use it for any parkrun. On the day there is no need to register or tell anyone of your presence. Simpy line up at the start and run as fast as you can. When you cross the finish line you’ll be given a token with your position on. Take this to the person with the PC and barcode scanner and give them your barcode and token and thats it.  No barcode, no result.. simple.

Fancy a double parkrun?

This Saturday a FAMILY FUN DAY will be held at Crystal Palace Park.

The day will start with the 5k parkrun / walk commencing at 10am open to all the family. The aim is to promote healthy living and its benefits, whilst showing how sport can be fun for the family.

Then Crystal Palace FC Community Sports Trust will be delivering a fastest shot competition, open access family come and try football sessions and an u14 five-a-side football tournament these activities will commence from 11.30am.

The event is also supported by Active Bromley, NHS Bromley and Bromley Council.

Please make note of the change of time and allow yourself that extra hours sleep in. Those folks attending Bromley or Roundshaw could possibly make it to Crystal Palace in time for the parkrun – securing a double parkrun (only ever achieved on Christmas and New Years Day before).

I look forward to seeing you then and make sure you bring the whole family along and join in the activities.

Ashlee and the Crystal Palace parkrun Team
