2007/8.....

Update: Winter 07/08 - Don't forget X-Country facilities now include our luxury BAG TENT

Kent League at Nurtsed Court....

Last Race of the Season...Bright but chilly, and its always nice to have a cross country event with Gold-Gilt chairs in the hospitality marquee. A nice water feature half way round, the shrieking, they say, could be heard in Dartford. P.S The boys ran too, but haven't got the pics yet!

Clare won, by the way !

Ken writes... Just to say thanks to all those runners(including newcomers Will and Andrew W) and supporters who braved the winter chill and mud of the Blackheath
course yesterday....and additional thanks for the organizors of the evening event!17 of our finest turned out to wage war with the "Heathens"....and pleased to see Kate (or was it Mel?) come away with some liquid spoils!

9th September - Ken writes...

Just received notes of dates for the XC season which might be of interest

JAN 12-Friendly with Blackheath,Orpington,SLH etc around their long course finishing Hayes common-a mass turnout last year from us and hopefully even more this year!     No need to pre-enter and about £2 to enter on day

JAN 5th –County champs at Croydon this time-this will require pre-entries  from mid December if anyone interested

Nov 24/Dec 1,Dec 8, Dec 22-various friendlies in Wimbledon Richmond area. normally about 6 miles with minimal entry fee if any at all. Would usually leave Beckenham about 13 hours returning after subsidized tea and beers about 18 hours-all on Saturday afternoon.A good reason for alternative weekend training, avoiding XMAS shopping tc etc.Entering either as additional bank team or  if sufficient number a Beckenham team in own right

 March 22 Orion 15-what can I say?

Correction - Sparrows Den is 22nd September.

22nd July - Ken Writes...

Have received Ken t Cross Country League dates just for diary note before I am away. By late August would be useful to know degree of interest for fixtures to assess degree of interest for this league (men’s and women’s)

Just a reminder…Fee for whole season £1.50 per individual and ideally need a core of half a dozen runners who will be able to run all/most races while some may wish to turn up selectively which is fine-one race number to be kept whole season

15th September - Sparrow Den relay.

6th October    Sparrows Den

27th October-   Capstone Park Chatham .

17th November  danson park- Women

15th December   Somerhills school Tonbridge   Men

16th February    Nurstead Court Gravesend

Many thanks to all those involved in last Saurday's Kent League match, Full results on www.kcaa.org.uk

Of individual note

1.Barry Royden 30.38.........still going strong

60.Marc Clayton

61 Andy Connors

84 James Hoskins

95 Mark Lacy

108 Andy Hinds

Over a season dogged by injuries, conflicting fixtures etc we have managed to field a team at all events against very stiff opposition

From the 4 match series Mark Lacy finished a very creditable 38th despite a dislike for the muddy stuff and often doubling up on weekend races

Also special thanks to James a relative club newcomer and Sarah for organizing the team at Swanley

Well done all

Ken

Another reminder of Orion 15 on www.orionharriers.org.uk a very tough off road 15 miler ideal for a pre marathion test!

14th December - Ken Writes....

17th Dec 2006 - Ken Writes...

Ladies Kent League .- a great result on the day and the grouping was enough to hurt Darford and Ashford and breathing so closely down Kent's neck!

A fantastic achievment in only the first season finishing in the top half of the league, only two points away from third place and putting many very well established Kent clubs to shame.......not to mention our men's cross country section, which,on paper, should have a massively larger pool of possible participants!

First, thanks to everybody that took part throughout the season......you see the importance of turning up and being there....

Special mention of Clare who won the Vets category by a massive margin and also come 4th overall across the entire Ladie's age categories!

The League part of the cross country season now over for the ladies but I have details of a couple of friendlies for next year and hopefully if we can further persuade Loulabelle,Marie,Christine,Lee-Ann etc that mud not so bad..we have the makings of a good squad for next year?

Ken's Benfleet Report... 29th January 2006

24 Beckenhams made it to the start line. It was one of those days that
Mel would call "f****n' freezing". Fortunately however, the ground was
not frozen, which could have been disastrous for those of us wearing
studs. In fact the underfoot conditions were the dryest I have ever
known them, the section along the ridge in the Hadleigh Park Nature
Reserve being merely muddy, rather than the normal quagmire. The wind
was blowing from a completely different direction from normal, making it
hard at the start, but normally we run into a head wind as we double
back at Leigh on Sea Station, making the open section very arduous.
Yesterday, however, we were blessed with a tail wind at that point. Ever
now and again the same came out, and just as I thought it was getting
warm there would be a sudden blast of icy cold wind.  No incidents were
reported by the Essex Mountain Rescue Team.

Craig stormed into the finish in 1:44:53,  well before the rest of us,
demonstrating once again that he can lead a dissolute life-style and
still beat the "southern softies" Mark and Sheridan, who run well in
training, but I've never seen race before, both put up very creditable
performances. Pat proved that it is possible to be sober and still
walk/run straight. Nicky has netanousified into being the clubs distance
female runner. In fact, teamwise, the women did rather better than us
men, being 6 out of 14. The men could only manage 12 out of 14.

Opinions on the course varied. some found it interesting  but a few
masochists complained that there were not enough hills in it. Jonathon,
as always, looked very relaxed at the finish, as if he enjoyed it
immensely.

Thanks to you all who turned up and supported the event.

Finally. a few people expressed disappointment at not getting a T Shirt.
I have managed to find 3 Benfleet T shirts at home (no they haven't been
worn). I am prepared to give them on a first ask, first get basis.

Blackheath and Bromley - 14th January 2006

And all I can tell you about this one, is that I didn't do it at all, suffering from a 'mysterious' ankle injury after the previous week at Sevenoaks. Funny that
Some great Pics of suffering runners though...

And Kate is saying "Would you please get out of the way".

Sevenoaks - 7th January 2006

All I can tell you about this one, is that I did it in my walking boots, because I forgot my studs... And the reason I only have pictures of ladies, is because I was running in the Men's Race when that happened! ( In Cross Country they send the Men and Women off on different races. How sweet. )

Dont think X country is fun ? - see these happy faces at Danson Park. And at £1.20 / season, its a bargain compared to the Nike 10k.

The girls are raring to go, Ive no idea what the guys are playing at.

It's a fun day out for the whole family. Sort of.
