Assembly League Race 6 of 6

Last night it was the final assembly league race of the year held at Beckenham. While both male and female teams have struggled to get enough people to form teams over the summer, it finished off with a flourish. Helen Garrett ran a solid race to finish the overall winner of the W45 catergory. Congrats Helen! If you take part in Helens track sessions, then you to could be a winner*

Assembly League Race 3: Victoria Park

Thank you paving works! It saved alot of people from having to endure another 0.5 miles of torturous lactic hell (unless of course you are a sensible runner and able to hold back abit at the start). So the normal 3.5 miles were reduced to 3.0.

If a still sunny June evening of racing wasn’t enough excitement we were also joined by comedian Lee Hurst running for Viccy Park (do you remember they think it’s all over?) Hope no body said that to him at the end, I expect they’d have got abit of a smack.

The end Results show:

The men….

2o, Jim Addison 16:01
29, Nolan Wilkens 16:31
56, Simon Carter 17:36
77, Will Withecombe 18:06
143, Andy Hinds 20:30

The mens team were 7th on the night and now 8th overall.

And the Ladies…

14, Mel Burdett, 19:06
27, Georgina Selway, 21:46
30, Nicky Howard, 22:00

The ladies were 5th team and now 6th overall.

And if you’re interested rouge blue Stuart Scott finished 34th in 16:44

Assembly League Race 2: The Dome

Click on the link for the Results of the Assembly League race held at the Dome. The course was much improved thanks to the completion of building works over the thames path, but until it gets officially measured they’ll always be discussions over the distance. But many seemed to concur that the distance was there or there abouts 5k. The mens team were 8th on the night and the ladies were a respectable 5th. It was pleasing to see 13 Beckenham shirts  turn out and 1 other rouge running for a team in Blue!

Men 4 to score
28th Nolan Wilkens 17:13
29th Jim Addison 17:14
68th Ben Calascione 18:30
90th Ed Osbourne 19:02

Ladies 3 to score
14th Mel Burdett 19:58
22nd Alice Langton 21:25
24th Helen Garrett 21:28

The next is a 3.5 mile race at Victoria Park 2/6/11 at 7:15pm

Some assembly league history

For discovery by future digital archivists, here is a scan of a lavishly hand-typed summary of the assembly league in 1990, with a history back to 1976.

Assembly league history 1990

Isn’t it amazing how technology has changed things.  Twenty years ago this was cranked out on a manual typewriter. These days of course the results are written out by hand.

Assembly League Beckenham April 11

7/4/11 The the 1st Assembly League race of 2011 took place in Beckenham, click here for the April Results. It was a solid if not spectacular start to this years series. The next race is at the Dome on the 5 May at 7:15.

23 Nolan Wilkens 15:50

Assembly League 2011

Leaves are appearing on trees, the thermostat has been moved down to 0, evening runs are now in daylight, beanie hats, gloves and running tights have been stuffed into the back of the running wardrobe… it can mean only one thing, the Assembly League is once more upon us. 6 rip roaring high quality  short fast races once a month over the summer, but are for ALL abilities. The 1st is hosted by us at Beckenham starting at 7pm. The ladies teams have generally outshone the men at this over the last couple of years, will they do so again this year, or will the men be able to get teams out for all the races?

Here are the fixtures for the summer all 7:15pm starts except for the 1st race which is at 7pm.

Beckenham 07/04/11

02 Arena 05/05/11

Victoria Park 02/06/11

Assembly League Race 6 of 6 Beckenham 2010.

Here are the results from the final Assembly League race of 2010.  Overall the men finished 8th and the ladies finished 7th, we could have done much better had we full strength teams out for all the fixtures. But well done to Clare Elms (everyones favourite 2nd claimer) for taking the ladies title… but at least Beckenham finished with a flourish thanks to a good turn out for the final fixture, as evident below…

Assembly League Race 5 of 6 Victoria Park

Well done to Will, Marc, Mel & Kate for turning up at the Assembly League at Victoria Park. As always happens this time of year attendance was poor because of holidays (well that’s my excuse) but at least the mens team was double that of last year when ok Chris was the sole representative.  So we fizzle out of contention and drop a few places…there’s always next year.

For completeness here are the Old skool results back to normal service.

(And thanks for the loan of the car Kate)

Assembly League Dome race 4 of 6, July 2010

Race results for the Assembly League Dome 5.1K , the last bastion of the type writer is no more as they’ve been typed up on a computer :(

Race news however, the mens team did fantastically well… er not, with only Craig and Nolan running, we still sit in 6th, with an outside chance of catching Dulwich (if they fail to put out a team!), what more incentive do you need to come & run next time guys!

The ladies managed to field a team and gave it there all in the hot & humid conditions, with Anika a disturbing bright shade of red at the end and Kate ready to heave.

Next race, back to Victoria Park Thursday 12 August 2010 for a 7:15 start.

Calling Beckenham Runners…

Mel writes:

‘Reminder it’s the Assembly League this Thursday (1/7) at the O2/Dome (North Greenwich) @ 7:15pm. Note: no changing facilities (tho toilets at North Greenwich Station). Course flat fast 5k or just under – who knows.’

There’s a few injuries about at the moment so if you can make it please do.

More info at club night if required.
