Weekend round up

4 Runners went round Orpington in blistering heat – well done!

3 Runners went to see the greatest musician that’s ever lived (Bob Dylan) – very well done!

2 Runners successfully looked after a dog.

1 Runner represented Beckenham at the park run, at least he won!

0 Runner photos today, sorry.

P.S. For the record, this was the weekend I did all my marshalling duties for the park run at Crystal Palace, by being the starter, lead cyclist, race marshal and finisher, all in a morning.

Grand Prix Latest June 2010

Jim writes…..

Here’s the Grand Prix 2010 tables End June 2010 updated following the Eltham and Dulwich events (Eltham also counting to the cross country grand prix).  Next event is Cliffe Woods on Sunday.  More people turned out for the June events so hopefully that will continue.

Headlines in terms of the latest standings following the June events are:

Main grand prix

* no changes to the leaders with Jim, Richard S and Gail leading the 3 divisions, but…

* first division – Simon stormed up to second giving Richard S some competition

* second division – Ken moved smartly up to second and Ian just moved ahead of Ameet

Age grading

* better % all round with now 14 rather than 11 club members in the average 70-80% range

* Craig with a rare 80+% for the club puts him above Richard S into third

* Helen first lady now ahead of Marc into 6th (and Stuart a new entry between the two of them)

Cross country grand prix

* Mel consolidating her lead in the ladies with Gail and Helen fighting it out for second

* Jim leading the men’s with Ben just behind and Simon in a safe third

I’ve not included the age % for the cross-country as the races vary so much in terms of terrain that a % is not really comparable. It works fine though for the main grand prix.  And it means only 3 leagues to think about. If you want me to reinstate it though please say

The Piece of Cake Is Back

The inaugral 2010 Piece of Cake time trial took place tonight, following the re-surfacing of the far leg of the track. And very smooth it was too. We appear, congratulations Simon, to have a new COURSE RECORD. Are the previous record holders going to take this lying down?

         Left Leg Right Leg 2
Simon    4-03 4-03 Nice consistancy and a New Course Record
Ben 6-16* 4-42* "I got lost" says Britain's 35th fastest Brompton Nocturne Athlete
Carolyn 5-36 5-42 A cautious start from a POC first-time. Plenty of season left.
Jen 5-09 5-14 Failing on the opening event of the season to threaten her own class record
Andy S 4-52 4-59 Not disqualified this event for any imaginary faults.
Steve F 4-31 4-38 Steve beats his own best time for last year. One to watch
Will     4-24      4-31* A dissapointing lack of "novelty bike" input from BRC's bike magpie
*Note: These two did the course without helmets which is not big or clever and will definatelty get their 20 second penatly next time.
Course Records

    Calling Beckenham Runners…

    Mel writes:

‘Reminder it’s the Assembly League this Thursday (1/7) at the O2/Dome (North Greenwich) @ 7:15pm. Note: no changing facilities (tho toilets at North Greenwich Station). Course flat fast 5k or just under – who knows.’

There’s a few injuries about at the moment so if you can make it please do.

More info at club night if required.

    Runners rest up

This weekend gone was a hot one, so most Beckenham runners choose to give the running a rest and instead kept cool taking on much liquid refreshment.  For some, this wasn’t enough and the heat still got to them.

For others, the heat was no distraction, to what the weekends are really about, some “quality” DIY.

Still can’t work out why there was no one around at 3pm on Sunday tho?

Grand Prix Dulwich 5k: Beckenham Win Again!!

Beckenham showed great strength in depth at the Dulwich 5k to claim both mens and ladies team prizes, and also 3rd lady & 1st lady v40.

A long list of injuries, football drunks (ahem) and Dog Sitters made it look like there were more spectators than those taking part, but Beckenham still had enough to take a fair share of the prizes.  And here they all are posing with their ….lovely envelopes!

There are some more Photo’s here, only taken with a phone so not up to Tom and Steve standard!

Next Grand Prix Cliffe Woods so get in your entry

    Anika 3rd Lady

    Kate 1st V40

Jim, Craig & Ben 1st Mens Team

Anika, Kate & Gail 1st Ladies Team

    WAGs and Racers

Yep, props to Chris for such a good time. Chris, I’m sure you’ll break 33 next season!

I can confirm the very good results from the North Downs 30k, well spurred on by three Beckenham cycle/use the car for most of the way WAGs.

If that’s not enough excitement for the weekend, it would be wrong to omit Ben’s participation in the Smithfield Nocturne’s Folding Bike Race. On a barmy summer evening, Ben competed in his current usual Saturday garb of full office suit. With a 100m sprint to then unfold his stead and race round three laps of the meat market, he comfortably qualified for the final.

With a commendably placed 31st in the final or as Steve would say “Probably 1st Maltese”, he provided much time wasting hanging around for the final.  Highly recommended for next year!

For those wondering who won the Caption Competition, there was a dead heat between:

“Kate starts her training for Riems.”
    “Kate’s latest coaching session”
Submitters wish to remain annoymous.  That ok, Chris and Nolan?

    Weekends Race News 20/6/10

Chris Minns ran in the Richmond 10k on Sunday. A fast course in good conditions weren’t enough for Chris to beat his sub 33 target but he still clocked a very fast time of 33:07 and 14th place in a high quality field.

30k is along way at the best of times, factor in summer and the ascents and descents of the North Downs it must feel so much further! So respect to the Beckenham Runners who took part in the North Downs 30k, impressive running guys.

Quote from Jim “fantastic scenery, poppy fields, rapeseed fields, vertical woods.  great fun”

        Results.

        7.  Jim Addison 2:08:06

        26.  Simon Carter 2:19:23

        90. Mel Burdett 2:35:02 (9th Lady?)

        120. Anika Jones 2:40:00 (12th Lady?)
