Grand Prix Update May 2010

Grand Prix tables May 2010 following Ted Pepper last Sunday which was the 5th race out of 12 (remember best 8 to count for points and age grading).

23 runners took part, best turnout since first grand prix event at Blackheath & Bromley.

In the main points competition – Premier, Chris up to 3rd with another impressive win and Craig up 2 places as well. In Div 1 Paul Booth up to 3rd, Mel up 2 to 4th, Andy Hinds up 3 to 9th. With Helen, Kate, Mel and Anika in the top 6 there that bodes well for a mixed Premier League next season. In Div 2, Ameet has closed the gap on Gail to 1 point, Ian McCarthy up one to 3rd, Ken Baksh up 2 places.

In the age grading, Chris M still the only person to have scored above 80%. A flat fastish course so everyone improved their average except for 1. No change at the top but Andy Small has moved up 8 places. Andy H, Toni and Andrew Rees have moved up 5 places each, Mel B and Paul Gay have moved up 3 places, Nolan and Ian have moved up 2, Chris L, Ruth, Ken B, Ameet all up 1 place.

Next races are two short ones close together – the Eltham 5 mile on 13th June and then Dulwich midsummer 5k on 23rd June.

Jim.

Ted Pepper 10k, 2010

The Beckenham Grand Prix road show rolled into Langley Park on Bank Holiday Monday for the Ted Pepper 10k. An impressive turn out saw around 26 maroon vests (actually that should be 25, and Wills only clean blue T shirt) taking on the fast 3 lap course. Many congratulations to Chris Minns who won the men’s race in 33:52 ensuring that a Beckenham runners name is inscribed on to the Edward Pepper Memorial trophy for another year. Even with some people absent there were still 7 men under 40 minutes. Not bad eh?

The other most important prize of the day was the prestigious ‘Marshalls Award’, which was won by Nicky (not sure what she did /promised the marshalls) but congratulations all the same!

London Marathon 2010

Wow what a day, surely the best set of results recorded by the club ever!

Following a week of talk about Ash and hot temperatures, this years marathon was run in near perfect conditions and produced some outstanding performances. After trailing Jim for most of the race Marc in his first marathon led home the men in a debut time of 2:43:58, closely followed by Jim in 2:44:25 who now qualifies for a Championship start next year.

Simon came in next smashing his PB to record 3:03 and surely a sub 3 beckons in Berlin. After a difficult 2nd half after getting to half way at sub 3 pace, Craig followed closely clocking 3:04. Tom, after a difficult week stuck in Madrid (probably sunbathing), sneaked inside the Good For Age time in 3:14:11, well done sir.

Next in was Kate, leading home the ladies in an impressive 3:23:53 not quite beating Sophie’s time of last year tho…gutted!  But brilliant none the less.

Then a flurry of runners, Smalls, Ameet, Nicky, Theunis, Georgina and Mel W ran steady races to beat the 4hour mark, with Gillian just missing itwith a 4:05.

Congratulations all rest up and recover well, Ted Peppers in a weeks time 🙂

Edit: Added in Paul who wasn’t down as Beckenham… tut tut.

Craig writes: John Morsley finishing in an incredible 3:10:33 (18 minutes of his PB at the age of 49!)
Paul Fletcher 3:35:00
Tim Aldred 3:50:09
Sergey Zelenov 4:06:57
Richard Greenland 4:37:53

The main results are here Darent Valley 10k results, and Team results are here won by Beckenham. Whilst those at the sharp end pretended to take it “easy” before the marathon, there were some excellent times on a tough course….. or so I’m told as I stayed with my bike at the HQ 🙁

I also tried my hand at taking photos with varing success so sorry to those missed….just click on the image below.

Malta Half – A clean sweep of the “second lady vets” award(s)

Congratulations Mel for getting second lady Vet in the 1,400 strong malta half marathon in testing ( e.g. lovely and hot ) conditions.

I would post a link to the results here, but there is a delay, which may, or may not, and Im only saying “may” be caused by the lead car taking the front four runners off the course, and then only getting two of them back again!
