Beckenham Running Club makes donation to Demelza Hospice

Before the Beckenham runners made there way out for another wintery Wednesday night run, we had the pleasure of welcoming Kate Najdowski from Demelza Hospice Care for Children to the Foxgrove Road club house.

Kate was there to accept a cheque  presented by Andrew Rees, the club Treasurer, for £1,000 as a donation from Beckenham Running Club.   The money was raised from the proceeds of the Beckenham Charity 10k Trail Race held back in November 2010. Kate thanked the club and explained what £1000 means to the Hospice in relation to equipment and respite care that it will help to provide.

We also wish to thank again all the runners who took part in our race, which contributed to the money raised for this worthy cause.

Reims à tout jambes 2010

What do you get when 35 Beckenham runners descend on a small city like Reims to take part in the annual running festival. A maroon tide of quality running and quality pre and post race fun..(some of it was sober) and enough stories to bore those that weren’t there senseless.

Runners descended by car, ferry and eurostar throughout Friday and Saturday in readiness for Sundays 10k, half marathon and marathon races…. and of course the Champagne quaffing!

Sunday started off at the expo with the 10k.  Stand out performance was from Helen who finished 9th Vet lady 10k results (as the results don’t allow you to filter by club the’re abit difficult to list everyone out sorry)

A shortwhile later the Half Marathon started, this turned out to be a hotly contested race between Craig and Stuart with Craig only beating Scotty by a minuscule second to 1:24:06 and 1:24:07!

Craig and Scotty tough it out

There were a number of great performances, but you’ll have to let me know if you got a pb so I can add it to this report, Half marathon results again haven’t got time to go through and list everyone!

And finally the Marathon, top performance of the race has to go to Mel who finished in 7th place and ran 3:15:42 smashing her pb. Finishing video, including a guy stacking it over the finishing mat, cruel but funny!

Allez allez allez!

Only 3 weeks ago Edgar got his 1st sub 3 time at Berlin, proving that was no fluke he ran Reims (for fun!) and finished in a very impressive 3:04:15.

Hello Edgar

And then there was myself….. who ended up running 27.8 miles thanks to ‘communication’ problems between myself and the marshals! I’d like to say I ran a 2:50 marathon…….which I did, but alas it was on the wrong part of the course, just to prove that I’m not making it up here’s the  stats galore recorded by my Garmin. C‘est la vie

Marathon results

So far we have photo’s from Steve F & Simon keep them coming folks…

Does anyone want to write up a race report / bar review then please do and email it to me…or put it up yourself if you can work out how to post.

And finally as was said in the restaurant a huge thanks to Martin Wiltshire for making the weekend happen. Where’s the next trip to then Martin!?

Coach Helen’s Race Report: Switchback 5

An elite team of 2 Beckenham Runners took part in the Switchback 5 on Sunday.  The race, organised by Striders of Croydon, is an undulating off road 5 miler advertised as a warm up for the cross country season.  Jim finished an excellent 2nd place despite being his third race in three days.  In my first non track race since  pulling my hamstring at the Eltham 5,  I finished much further down the field! (10th Lady in 37:09) I’ve walked round Addington Hills before but I didn’t appreciate how up and down the hills are or how steep.  As I stumbled up the last one to the viewing platform, I made a mental note to schedule some hill training sessions before cross country season properly underway.

More hill training required!

The race was probably the best value I’ve entered – free t-shirt, tea and home made cake all for four pounds! It’s also very close to Beckenham, on Sunday morning roads it only took me 6 minutes to drive there.  Definitely a race we should consider including in the Grand Prix for next year.

P.S. There were 3 Beckenham runners but one was running in his 2nd claim vest so doesn’t get a mention! (see below post!)

Helen Garrett.

If anyone else wants to write up a brief report on there racing then please feel free, you can either email me nolan.wilkens@yahoo.com or if you can work it out yourself you could always post up your own.

Grand Prix Dulwich 5k: Beckenham Win Again!!

Beckenham showed great strength in depth at the Dulwich 5k to claim both mens and ladies team prizes, and also 3rd lady & 1st lady v40.

A long list of injuries, football drunks (ahem) and Dog Sitters made it look like there were more spectators than those taking part, but Beckenham still had enough to take a fair share of the prizes.  And here they all are posing with their ….lovely envelopes!

There are some more Photo’s here, only taken with a phone so not up to Tom and Steve standard!

Next Grand Prix Cliffe Woods so get in your entry
