The Piece of Cake – Summer special
Posted by Site Admin in Club Events, Everything Else on July 25th, 2011
It has often been noted that the Piece Of Cake, South London’s Legendary cake-shaped cycle sprint consists of 3 parts, Left Leg, Right Leg and third (pub leg) well it could be that last thursday was a record entry, but for the pub leg. We seeemed to fill most of the back of the jolly woodman celebrating our various summer travels. Which is a mystery because initial legs of the piece of cake were represented more exclusively. Well done simon, by the way.
Left Leg Right Leg
Nicky 5.06 5.11
Andy 4.38 3.36
Simon 4.12 4.12
Sophie 4.51 4.52
Ben 5.16 5.10 (Thats bromptons for you).

South London’s favourite cake-shaped cycle sprint got of to a measured start with times posted unlikely to threaten the current sub 4 club record.
A mix of vehicles, including a fixi and an electrical powered nonsense ensure that the piece-of-cake’s reputation for fielding creative cycling solutions remains undimmed. And congratulations sophie for a) turning up on a proper bike and b) doing so well only a few days after the marathon.
p.s. the winner was nicky as I think she was the only one to turn up with her crash helmet, so the rest of us are all disqualified anyway.
Left Leg Right Leg
Andy H 4.50 4.47
Sophie 4.44 4.44
Stuart 4.39 4.40
Steve F 4.47 4.48
Nicky 5.15 5.23
Ben 4.45* 4.44
*battery on the woosh was only turned on for the left leg.
Beckenham Running Club makes donation to Demelza Hospice
Posted by Nolan in Beckenham 10k Trail Race, Beckenham Photo's, Club Events, Everything Else on January 27th, 2011
Before the Beckenham runners made there way out for another wintery Wednesday night run, we had the pleasure of welcoming Kate Najdowski from Demelza Hospice Care for Children to the Foxgrove Road club house.
Kate was there to accept a cheque presented by Andrew Rees, the club Treasurer, for £1,000 as a donation from Beckenham Running Club. The money was raised from the proceeds of the Beckenham Charity 10k Trail Race held back in November 2010. Kate thanked the club and explained what £1000 means to the Hospice in relation to equipment and respite care that it will help to provide.
We also wish to thank again all the runners who took part in our race, which contributed to the money raised for this worthy cause.
Mob Match; Beckenham v Petts Wood v Orpington
Posted by Nolan in Club Events on January 14th, 2011
I’m pleased to announce that our neighbours & running rivals, Petts Wood Running Club and Orpington Road Runners, have a accepted the challenge laid down by Beckenham RC of a mob match!
Date: 2nd April 9am
Location: Bromley parkrun
The event will be hosted by Bromley parkrun on a 5k course. Please put this in your running diaries so we can ensure a good turn out. I think it’s fair to say all three clubs have been steadily growing and improving at impressive rates over the last few years, so it promises to be a well contested event….

Beckenham Running Club 2010 Awards
Posted by Nolan in Club Events, Everything Else, Races & Reports on December 16th, 2010
2010 is fast drawing to a close, which meant that last night it was time for the annual glitzy gala award ceremony / Christmas Dinner! The well attended event gave everyone an opportunity to leave the sweaty lycra in the kit bag and dress up in their finest attire (except for Jim
) and reflect on the outstanding performances over the year. Congratulations to everyone who’s turned out for the club in 2010, and pushed themselves to the limit through the long winter, during scorching sunny days, over mud, sand, trail and roads….we cumulatively ran thousands of miles together as a club (I’d guess!)
So lets have a ripple of applause please for the following 2010 roll of honour.

Reims à tout jambes 2010
Posted by Nolan in Beckenham Photo's, Club Events, Everything Else, Races & Reports on October 19th, 2010
What do you get when 35 Beckenham runners descend on a small city like Reims to take part in the annual running festival. A maroon tide of quality running and quality pre and post race fun..(some of it was sober) and enough stories to bore those that weren’t there senseless.
Runners descended by car, ferry and eurostar throughout Friday and Saturday in readiness for Sundays 10k, half marathon and marathon races…. and of course the Champagne quaffing!
Sunday started off at the expo with the 10k. Stand out performance was from Helen who finished 9th Vet lady 10k results (as the results don’t allow you to filter by club the’re abit difficult to list everyone out sorry)
A shortwhile later the Half Marathon started, this turned out to be a hotly contested race between Craig and Stuart with Craig only beating Scotty by a minuscule second to 1:24:06 and 1:24:07!
Craig and Scotty tough it out
There were a number of great performances, but you’ll have to let me know if you got a pb so I can add it to this report, Half marathon results again haven’t got time to go through and list everyone!
And finally the Marathon, top performance of the race has to go to Mel who finished in 7th place and ran 3:15:42 smashing her pb. Finishing video, including a guy stacking it over the finishing mat, cruel but funny!
Allez allez allez!
Only 3 weeks ago Edgar got his 1st sub 3 time at Berlin, proving that was no fluke he ran Reims (for fun!) and finished in a very impressive 3:04:15.
Hello Edgar
And then there was myself….. who ended up running 27.8 miles thanks to ‘communication’ problems between myself and the marshals! I’d like to say I ran a 2:50 marathon…….which I did, but alas it was on the wrong part of the course, just to prove that I’m not making it up here’s the stats galore recorded by my Garmin. C‘est la vie
So far we have photo’s from Steve F & Simon keep them coming folks…
Does anyone want to write up a race report / bar review then please do and email it to me…or put it up yourself if you can work out how to post.
And finally as was said in the restaurant a huge thanks to Martin Wiltshire for making the weekend happen. Where’s the next trip to then Martin!?

Beckenham Club Trip to Reims
Posted by Nolan in Club Events, Everything Else on October 12th, 2010
We’re now only days away from Beckenham’s invasion of Reims!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A couple of pointers…
If you haven’t all ready got one, you will need a medical certificate to run in French races. There have been loads of emails on this….so no excuses!
Print off your registration instructions from the website to give to the nice expo people in exchange for your race number etc. (You will need your email you registered with and the race number to put in the boxes, see Edgars email)
Check your travel arrangements and hotel bookings as sent by Martin.
Most importantly please ensure you have payed Martin back any money he has paid on your behalf.
Get yourself insured as the UKA’s cover is only basic…
Don’t forget your passport!
And the weathers looking good…..

Reims 17th October 2010

Email from Martin
Time to cough up chaps! I shall need a £100 deposit over the next couple of weeks (I shall be at the Club this Wed & next). Cash or a cheque made out to MJ Wiltshire acceptable. Alternatively, if anyone wishes to pay directly into my account, call me on 07946 303 896.Total cost is likely to be in the region of £215. This is slightly higher than anticipated, as Eurostar is significantly more expensive than last time.I have provisionally booked twin rooms at the Mercure ‘Reims Cathedrale’, including breakfast. Whilst not adjacent to Reims Cathederal, it’s fairly central. The plan is to depart early on Saturday, but I’ve noticed that some of you going earlier have already booked your train. If anyone else is making their own transport arrangements (those that have mentioned thet you intend to drive, please confirm) let me know ASAP so I can amend booking with Eurostar.
