No Beckenham runners here, but watch this phenomenal performance by David Rudisha in Berlin on Sunday. Bloody amazing run!
David Rudisha’s World Record 1:41.09 800m
Henfield Half Marathon
Beckenham were well represented at the Henfield half marathon yesterday. Here’s a link to the results. Special mentions to Stuart who ran a sub 90 minute time ( I admit I had to do a double take when I saw that…or did someone else run with his number, 😉 ).
If anyone wants to elaborate on the weekend further, feel free..

Assembly League Race 5 of 6 Victoria Park
Well done to Will, Marc, Mel & Kate for turning up at the Assembly League at Victoria Park. As always happens this time of year attendance was poor because of holidays (well that’s my excuse) but at least the mens team was double that of last year when ok Chris was the sole representative. So we fizzle out of contention and drop a few places…there’s always next year.
For completeness here are the Old skool results back to normal service.
(And thanks for the loan of the car Kate)
Hello Sailor
This is getting boring now… well done (again) to Jim Addison who continues to knock chunks of his PB’s.
Stressing that he’s a married man (although that hasn’t stopped many an MP and Judges alike) he wore his pink number with “pride” at the Pride 10k at Victoria Park on Saturday (you were two day’s late, the Assembly League was Thursday 🙂 )
He kept up with ‘front runners’ and ran 34:16 beating his old PB by about 3 seconds finishing 9th, click here for the Results. Nice one.
@ the Velodrome
The rain held off (only just) for the annual velodrome trip on Saturday as 9 keen cyclists tied themselves into the pedals of the racing bikes. After several practice laps to acclimatise to the steep banking, the group began to work together in close formation. Simon won the 8 lap race with Will close behind. The team relay race was won by the A-Team (Andy H, Nicky, Steve F, Simon) after a fast starting B-Team (Will, Stuart, Mel, Ben).
This was Stuart’s first time at the drome, so he set off rather nervously…
but there was celebration after the first lap….
Thanks to Will for organising the event.
Velodrone
Meet at the club at 1.30pm on Saturday to cycle to herne hill. Don’t be late, we won’t wait.
Alternatively, make your own way there (SE24 9HE), meet at 2pm.
If you’ve looked at the weather, it looks grim, so alternative is to cycle to tooting bec lido (not far at all!) for a swim. Bring towel and swimming gear.
August Handicap Results
Results for August are now up Click here, it’s still a two way battle at the top between the Sullivans with John overtaking Andrea to claim 1st, with Stuart moving into third going above injured Darren. The next race is on 8th September.
Sri Chimnoy 5k Battersea Park
There seems to be a distinct lack of racing going on this month – maybe everyone is on holiday. But I can report two Beckenham Runners (and one honorary member managed to make it to Battersea Park last night for an eye balls out 5k .
Jim Addison continued to reap the benefits of his consistent hard training by beating his 5kPB for the second time in 2 weeks by clocking 16:27 (previous 16:38), Toni Merola managed a solid 19 something, with Mrs Addison finishing well (I can’t remember the time!)
As an experiment heres a short video of the race…..(check out the Kamikaze cyclist before the hooter!)
