Pirie 10

Simon Harris and Jim Addison turned out for South London Harrier’s Pirie 10m cross-country on Sunday, rearranged after the snow before Xmas.  We were one short of a team but Herne Hill would have won easily anyway.  It was a windswept Farthing Common for a small but cheery field of about 120.  Despite the lack of rain the course was very muddy in the lower field and Jim fell over once trying to keep up with a guy with studs. Jim also survived a 6 inch nail going clean through his shoe and between two toes in the warm up!  Despite that we came in 11th (Jim, 1:05:20) and 18th (Simon 1:08:53) which was very respectable given the conditions.  It was a lovely course, two laps of a figure of eight, and great marshals and it’s certainly an option for the December grand prix fixture when it should return to its usual date, though we do have a large number of trail races already.

(what Jim didn’t mention is that went on to run more miles ending up with 22 for the day, nice training!)
