Although as a club we didn’t enter this year (entries had
to be in so early!), there was some Beckenham interest in the race
held at Wilmington. Stuart Scott ran a respectable 48:08 (84th
place) for Kent AC in the 11970m mens race. Clare Elms (2nd claim)
had a good run and won the senior 8050m ladies race in 30:07, 10
seconds ahead of her nearest rival.
Kent Cross Country Champs
Blackheath and Bromley Open 10k
Ladies and Gentleman, your attention please……
I know Christmas hasn’t even been yet, but it’s now less than 4 weeks till the Blackheath and Bromley Open 10k, which is also the first race of the new Grand Prix 2011 season. (For those that haven’t done it before, it’s an off road race starting near Sparrows Den, Hayes and finishes near Keston).
The race is also a David v Goliath mob match between B&B and us! For the first time, the fixture will also feature a trophy (so I’ve been told) to be awarded to the winning team. So please could everyone and anyone no matter how fit your feeling following the Christmas excess, put in your diaries Saturday the 15th of January 2011, and turn out for your club so we can show them that we are a club not to be taken lightly!
As you were.

Beckenham Running Club 2010 Awards
2010 is fast drawing to a close, which meant that last night it was time for the annual glitzy gala award ceremony / Christmas Dinner! The well attended event gave everyone an opportunity to leave the sweaty lycra in the kit bag and dress up in their finest attire (except for Jim 😉 ) and reflect on the outstanding performances over the year. Congratulations to everyone who’s turned out for the club in 2010, and pushed themselves to the limit through the long winter, during scorching sunny days, over mud, sand, trail and roads….we cumulatively ran thousands of miles together as a club (I’d guess!)
So lets have a ripple of applause please for the following 2010 roll of honour.

Snow cancels this weeks races…
Thanks to the snow the Kent League and the Pirie 10 got called off this week to much frustration. So not to much to report about this week……
However, well done to the Bromley parkrun team for embracing the snow, and putting on the usual weekly race/TT. Times were down, as were the numbers but it was good fun. Jim won in the slowest ever time, with myself slowly on his heels. Kate ran a blinder (quite literally if you get to close to her top) in a Personal Worst as she came in 1st lady. Click on the photo’s to see some other Beckenham faces….

Andy gives his car a Mohican

Stuart says he ran but I didn't see him in any photo's!
Portland Marathon
Probably the only place in the country to escape the snowfall was Portland in Dorset. Handy that, as the Portland Marathon was ran there on Saturday with Peter Baskh taking part. By the sounds of it, the course is definitley not PB material, with 6 miles of shingle beach (ouch) and over 2200 feet of climbing. Pete did very well to finish 9th in 4:14:10 and is fast catching up with Ken Fancett as the clubs endurance nut case.
South of the Thames XC: Wimbledon
There was also some proper high quality racing going on Saturday. In arctic conditions, Beckenham men just scraped together a mens team and came a respectable 10th out of 29th at the 5.3 miles race around Wimbledon Common. (The results below are incorrect so you’ll have to trust me that we were 10th!)
SOTT Results: Wimbledon, 5.3 Miles
Well done to the scorers Chris Minns, Jim Addison, Nolan Wilkens, Will Withecombe, and also the non scorers Andy Hinds, Mel Burdett and Nicky Howard….
The next race is at Coulsdon on the 18th December a 7.5 mile XC, please email me if you want to run. Nolan.wilkens@yahoo.com.
Movember parkrun.
Bromley parkrun 27/11, resembled a porn start exhibition on Saturday. In aid of Movember and prostate cancer Saturdays parkrun was dedicated to Movember. Below is a selection of the finest mo’s known to man (and women) click on the images should you wish to have a closer look at the Mo’s.
The mo roll of honour ….
Brighton 10k 2010
……to add to the Bromley parkrun Grand Prix and the Beckenham Trail race….The Brighton 10k….phew what a busy weekend!
A few folks made it down to the Sussex coast yesterday, some in search of a pb on a lightening fast course (wind permitting) and others for a post race knees up..
Mel continued her excellent form as she got another PB by smashing through the sub 40 minute barrier with a chip time of 39:37 and a gun time of 39:51. Ben’s face sunk as he heard the news in the bar, as he realised he now needs to fork out for another bottle of bubbly.
Helen also grabbed another PB by dipping under the 43 minute mark in 42:56 and Debbie knocked 6 minutes of her PB by finishing in 52:28.
Next years Brighton 10k is now set in stone on the new fixture list (TBA) and won’t clash with the trail race, so no one has to miss out on the PB fest next year!

Beckenham Grand Prix Final Standings.
Note this is nothing to do with the trail race…
Following on from Saturdays final grand prix at Bromley, Jim has managed to produce a summary table of the main movers and shakers. Main Grand Prix 2010 final results. Congratualtions to the respective winners Jim (Premership) Richard Selway (Div 1) & Gail (Div 2)…
There’ll probably be abit of shake up of the divisions before next season, so watch this space.
