Beckenham Trail 10k Race 2010

A big thank you from Beckenham Running club to everybody that ran in today’s 10k Charity Trail Race. The race was held in perfect conditions on a what is fast becoming quite a muddy course, although slightly helped in parts by the council’s new bike track. Don’t expect anymore spending from them in the future on such lavish cycling facilitities in the wake of the austerity measures…..but I digress.
The race was won in a new course record by Blackheath & Bromley’s Russell Bentley in 33:57 in a close finish with local Beckenham Running Shop guru and Newham & Essex ‘s Abdi Madhar in 33:59. Clayton Barrett from Medway & Maidstone was 3rd in 36:19 after a close tussle with Stephen Thackeray in 36:22.

The women’s race (and most of the other prizes) was dominated by Dulwich Runners, who took the 1st 3 places, with local legend (and Beckenham 2nd claimer!) Clare Elms taking 1st place in 37:58, Charlie Wood in 2nd ( 41:26) and Ola Balme in 3rd (42:03).

Grand Prix: parkrun 20/11/2010

This Saturday 20th November is the final Beckenham Road Grand Prix  race of the year.

It’s at Bromley parkrun, a free 5k run held weekly in Norman Park at 9am. Many of us have taken part regularly at parkruns so know the drill. For those that haven’t……

Firstly parkruns are entirely run by volunteers who give up there time every Saturday morning to put on the races. Having 30 odd Beckenham folk turn up is maybe stretching their goodwill a wee bit so if anyone can volunteer to help marshal then please contact BromleyHelpers@parkrun.com

On your marks......

New parkrunners have to REGISTER HERE in advance of the race (by Friday 6pm for this Saturday) and print off your personalised barcode, you can keep and use it for any parkrun. On the day there is no need to register or tell anyone of your presence. Simpy line up at the start and run as fast as you can. When you cross the finish line you’ll be given a token with your position on. Take this to the person with the PC and barcode scanner and give them your barcode and token and thats it.  No barcode, no result.. simple.

Boulogne-Billancourt Half Marathon

A quick nod and a doff of the cap to Chris Minns, he ventured over to France this weekend… (you could have told us, we could have gate crashed with a club trip ala Reims part deux!!)…. and ran the Boulogne – Billancourt Half Marathon.

Chris was dogged again by hamstring woes but was able to continue to finish with a highly respectable 1:14:25.

Chris Minns takes on the French

Chris says…

‘My hamstring gave out between 14 and 15k into the Boulogne-Billancourt half yesterday.  I held on as much as possible and got home in 1:14:25 (24th).  After the usual slow start (10K in about 34:50), I dropped down to ~ 3:25/km and was looking at a getting a respectable time in lousy conditions.’

Well done Chris ….. different gravy.

Movember

You’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s been a lack of facial grooming at the club recently (well more than is normal anyway), it’s been for a good cause…. Movember! It’s supposed to be for Prostate awareness, but I reckon it’s more for those who’d like to hark back to the 18th century when a handle bar was a moustache and not a bike part.
Leading the way this weekend was David Scrimshaw at the Movember run in Greenwich Park… results TBA. More of the Mo here and search race no. 1163

Scrimshaw with Mo & Medal

There’s more events at Battersea and Bromley parkrun over the next couple of weeks. So come on gents show us your Mo’s and lets have a Mo roll of honour on here.

Kent League Cross Country Race no.3 (Ladies Only)

Beckenham’s ladies were in action over the weekend at Danson Park. 1st in was Mel who finished in 15th, followed by Anika (30th), Helen (32nd), Kate (37th), (Gail 49th)  and Nicky (56th). They finished a respectable 4th team on the day and lie 6th overall in the League…… much better than the men (ahem)…. Results

Overall in the individual standings Mel is 3rd in the V35 cat, with Anika in 8th.  Can they both claim individual prizes like last year? With one race left, there’s plenty to… er… run for.

Dry Slope Skiing!

In the absence of any racing over the weekend, except a Park Run PB by Stuart and win no. 110 million by Jim….

Ken Baksh writes…….

If short of news, we have something from our South Coast member!

Peter Baksh came 4th in the British Universities Dry Ski Slope championships at the weekend. He hopes to do the Park run on Saturday 20th and has entered the Portland Marathon on 4th December….dont’ask!

Eat my snow...

What happened to students drinking all night and watching day time TV all day, or was that just me….
I think that definitely gets filed under the category ‘Everything Else’
